Overview

Applies knowledge of state and local tax to ensure complete, accurate, and timely filing of all sales/use and property tax returns.

Responsibilities

Research, document and maintain tax positions with respect to all aspects of sales tax including tax rates, product taxability, nexus, and origin/destination sourcing

 

Communicate with 3rd party sales and property tax professionals, as necessary

 

Actively maintain sales tax software for both store and e-commerce sales. Reconcile sales tax data between software and general ledger

 

Review purchase invoices to ensure proper use tax accrual

 

Accumulate sales tax data for both store and e-commerce sales and prepare monthly sales and use tax returns

 

Process all sales and use tax payments via check or wire transfer

 

Maintain filing calendar for all sales and use tax filings to ensure that all filing deadlines are met

 

Manage state and local sales and use tax audits

 

Accumulate property tax information and send to 3rd party property tax professionals.

 

Review notices of valuation for all locations

 

Maintain filing calendar for all personal property tax filings to ensure that all filing deadlines are met

 

Manage personal property tax audits

 

Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures, and informing management and/or appropriate officials of potential fraud risk.

Qualifications

Accounting degree from an accredited college or university. CPA preferred. Candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of tax related experience, preferably with an accounting firm or multistate corporation.
